Is this what you'll be eating for Valentine's Day dinner? Credit: Soupstance, Flickr
If your light wallet is making you dread the price of a romantic Valentine's Day dinner, White Castle might be your shining beacon of hope this holiday.
Yes, we said White Castle. The national burger chain is offering tableside service, flowers and candle light
at 14 locations on Feb. 14. It's so exclusive you even have to make a reservation to get in.
Apparently, this is a White Castle
tradition that dates back to 1991, and cheap -- er, thoughtful -- dates have been taking advantage to indulge their inner
Harold and Kumar ever since.
While we can think of a million ways that a romantic dinner at a place that serves "sliders" just seems wrong, we have to admit that White Castle's call to satisfy your "champagne tastes on a burger budget" is persuasive in this economy. "At White Castle, you can indulge your special someone's craving for a romantic dinner without breaking your budget," Vice President Jamie Richardson explains in a company press release. A Sack 3 Meal, which amounts to dinner for two with 10 sliders, two 21 oz. soft drinks and two regular French fries is just $11.99.
The White Castle special comes with a professional photographer snapping shots of you with your sweetie, so you can show the grandkids one day just how committed you are to satisfying that White Castle craving.
You tell us -- would you kick your date to the curb if they took you for a romantic dinner at a fast food joint?

it would be a fun/different thing to do and tell your friends about. I think it is a cute idea in an established relationship and as long as you explained it ahead of time, it would be fun on a first date too.

I would LOVE my husband if he took me to White Castle! I'm easy to please and White Castle brings back MANY fond memories all the way from childhood. We now live in Florida where we don't have White Castle...sigh! But we sure stop every time we get home to Chicago! In fact, we almost got into an accident once in Indiana just trying to get off the highway to stop at the first White Castle we had seen in many years!

I had a boyfriend who worked the opposite shift of me, and when I got off work, all the nice places were closed. So one night we were supposed to hang out, I lured him to IHOP saying I had had a really bad night and needed to have someone else make dinner. When he got there, I had set the table with a white table cloth and an unlit candle (you could smoke, but not burn candles). I knew the waitresses from school so they were in on it too. As long as there is someone you care about sitting next to you, it doesn't matter where you are. Just hope your date isn't vegan! haha

My hubbie's birthday is Valentine's day! Some years we go out, some we stay home and I cook something extra special. Last year I did a quirky take on the "soup and sandwich". I spent all day making a fabulous french onion soup--croutons, melty gruyer, the whole nine yards. I called him at work before he left and told him to stop at White Castle and bring home 6 sliders. He was curious, because we never order so few for a meal.
I had the table set with the good china, candles, tablecloth, special champagne flutes. He got home and I set the sliders--in their boxes--on a platter and we had the most romantic meal ever. It's one we'll remember for many years!

We offered this during the 70's while managing a McDonalds in NJ.
On a weekly basis, one night during the week, usually 6-9pm ............ waitress, waiter, candlelight, tables set and decorated.
We had another dining room for those who prefered not to participate.
The cusomers loved it .... all ages!

what a great idea then take the money you would have spend on the more expensvie dinner champagne .. etc and donate it to the haitian relief fund ..or even better give it to a local food bank ..
so they can help others
a gift to charity on the day of love is a gift of love for sure
